Bono used his 62nd birthday to announce a memoir, due this fall.
The U2 frontman, born Paul Hewson in Dublin, Ireland, will publish Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story through Alfred A. Knopf on Nov. 1. True to its title, the book's chapters will focus on his life and career through a series of U2's songs. In the clip below, the singer reads part of the chapter devoted to "Out of Control," released on the band's debut EP in 1979.

"Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me," Bono said in a statement. "Growing up in Ireland in the seventies with my fists up (musically speaking), it was not a natural concept. A word I only circled until I gathered my thoughts for the book. I am still grappling with this most humbling of commands. In the band, in my marriage, in my faith, in my life as an activist."
U2's last album was Songs of Experience, released in 2017. Their last tour was in 2019, when they took a belated 30th anniversary celebration of breakthrough The Joshua Tree to Australia and Asia.
